Fort Nelson Generating Station Upgrade

Fort Nelson feature box

BOOMING REGION NEEDS MORE POWER

Demand for electricity in the Fort Nelson area is expected to increase by 50 to 200 per cent by 2013, and the current capacity of BC Hydro's Fort Nelson Generating Station (FNG) is not sufficient to meet that demand.

The FNG upgrade project will increase the plant’s capacity from 47 megawatts to 71.5 megawatts.

Industrial growth, household usage increases demand

As a result of increased industrial activity and households switching to electric heat in the Fort Nelson area, electricity demand has increased by more than 50 per cent in recent years.

This demand is expected to increase by a further 50 to 200 per cent by 2013. The current capacity of BC Hydro's Fort Nelson Generating Station (FNG) is not sufficient to meet this expected demand and requires upgrading.
