BC Hydro has completed a wind data study that assesses the characteristics of wind resources in regions of British Columbia that are likely to experience significant wind energy development in the future. This was done by synthesizing wind speed, wind direction and wind project power data that accurately represent the spatial and temporal characteristics of realistically located and sized wind farms that might be built in each region. This information will serve as input to a wind integration analysis being undertaken by BC Hydro and the British Columbia Transmission Corporation.
The final public version of the BC Hydro Wind Data Study Report (May 2009) is provided below along with an update (September 2009) to the study. The BC Hydro Wind Data Study Update was undertaken by DNV Global Energy Concepts Inc. to complete the coverage of the province and estimate the wind development potential in regions not covered in the BC Hydro Wind Data Study.
Materials from presentations made by BC Hydro on the wind data study can be found below.
On February 6, 2009 a presentation was made to Wind Independent Power Producers and others regarding the draft wind data study results.
On July 3, 2008, a presentation was made to Wind Independent Power Producers and others regarding the wind data study.
