Cost Estimate for Site C
Site C would be among the most cost-effective resource options to help meet B.C.’s future electricity needs. Like other large hydro projects, Site C would have a significant upfront capital cost and low operating costs over a long life of more than 100 years. Site C’s peer-reviewed cost estimate of $7.9 billion includes all construction and development costs, inflation, contingencies and interest during construction (financing). Electricity from Site C would be produced at a unit energy cost of between $87 and $95 per megawatt hour, which is a comprehensive cost accounting for all anticipated life-cycle costs to ratepayers.
