Consistent with BC Hydro's procurement practices, public competitive procurement opportunities for work at Ruskin have been advertised on BC Bid.
Ruskin project work will include:
| Right Abutment Stage II | This work will involve reinforcing the right (i.e., west) bank of the dam with a specially designed barrier wall to manage water seepage during and after a seismic event. |
| Spillway Gates supply contract | This contract was awarded under the existing partnership agreement between BC Hydro and HMI Construction Inc. This work will involve final design, manufacturing and supply of five new spillway gates. |
| Contract A (Upper Dam and Powerhouse Structure Upgrade) | This work will involve a seismic upgrade of the dam and the powerhouse, including construction of new piers, installation of new spillway gates, construction of a two lane bridge and powerhouse superstructure upgrade, installation of the new powerhouse crane and a new elevator. |
| Contract B (Powerhouse Completion Contract) | This work involves powerhouse telecommunications, protection and control, electrical and mechanical upgrades, the powerhouse seismic upgrade not completed in Upper Dam and Powerhouse Structure Upgrade contract, intake gates, tunnels and penstocks rehabilitation, draft tube gates installation and left abutment slope stabilization. |
The majority of the packages associated with the Ruskin project were advertised publicly on BC Bid and went through a competitive RFP process.
It is BC Hydro's intent to package the civil work and equipment supplies to ensure safe and efficient implementation of the project with the minimum impact on the community and the environment.

Local opportunities
BC Hydro is working with local businesses and the community to facilitate opportunities for local involvement. For example, the Mission Chamber of Commerce has developed a Mission Handbook for Major Projects. BC Hydro will be distributing this handbook to its local offices and contractors working in the area.
