Revelstoke Unit 5 Project
Project responds to increased demand
To ensure British Columbia continues to have the electricity it needs at peak times, BC Hydro is investing in the renewal of Revelstoke Dam and Generating Station to increase its capacity. The fifth generating unit adds 500 megawatts of dependable capacity to the generating station.
Fifth generating unit to add 500 megawatts
Revelstoke began operation in 1984 and was originally designed to accommodate the six generating units. Current operations consist of four generating units with a combined capacity of 1,980 megawatts (MW). Now, additional capacity is needed.
The fifth unit adds 500 MW of dependable capacity to the generating station. The Revelstoke Dam and Generating Station represents about 21 per cent of BC Hydro's capacity to produce electricity.
