Burnaby to New Westminster Transmission
.
Electricity demand is growing
Like most municipalities in the Lower Mainland, New Westminster's population — and demand for electricity — are growing. The Burnaby to New Westminster Transmission Project will ensure New Westminster's need for electricity will be reliably met well into the future.
Project status and updates
This project involves upgrading the New Westminster Substation by replacing two smaller aging transformers with two larger transformers. During the upgrade, other substation equipment that are approaching end of life will also be replaced.
A new underground 60 kilovolt (kV) transmission line will also be required to bring more electricity into the community. The circuit will interconnect the New Westminster Substation with an existing overhead transmission line located in a BC Hydro right-of-way near Lakefield Drive at the edge of Robert Burnaby Park.
