ISKUT: What's happening

Imperial Metals, working closely with the Tahltan Nation, recently completed a new 287 kilovolt transmission line from Bob Quinn Substation (the northern end of the Northwest Transmission Line Project) to their Red Chris Mine.

The new line loops into a substation that BC Hydro has built at Tatogga Lake, about 93 kilometres north of Bob Quinn. BC Hydro has purchased the part of the line between Bob Quinn and the new Tatogga Substation.

This new line can carry more electricity than the Red Chris Mine requires. That means there will be electricity available to supply potential industrial developments that may be built in the area.

BC Hydro has also built a 16 kilometre long distribution line from Tatogga Substation to the community of Iskut. The community of Iskut was connected to the BC Hydro grid on December 18, 2014, and no longer needs to use diesel generators.
