Metal halide lamps are high intensity discharge (HID) lamps that have high colour rendering characteristics. Metal halide lamps require a ballast in order to operate as a high voltage pulse is required to start the lamp. Metal halide lamps require time, typically three to four minutes to reach full brightness. Metal halide lamps generally cannot be burnt in any position.
