In early 2008, BC Hydro published a new educational resource for Grade 6 to assist students in making informed decisions about the safe use of electricity. Developed by B.C. educators and curriculum specialists, the free materials were delivered to all Grade 6 classrooms in the province.

BC Hydro's approach to electrical safety

The concept of safety is an ideal complement to the skill of observation. Students must be aware of situations that may be potentially hazardous and know how "to take action to stay safe." Students must also recognize important icons, signs and symbols in their environment.

Think Ahead! is a proactive approach; one that empowers students to stay safe. It means that students are aware of their surroundings and the possible hazards.

What's in the safety kit?

Engaging visuals and a teacher-friendly design helps you deliver an effective electrical safety message:

Electrical safety for college trades programs

In early 2009, BC Hydro piloted a new Electrical Safety Presentation to be delivered across the province to students in college and university trades programs.

A variation of the safety information provided to industry workers, this pilot was designed to meet the requests of trades programs to provide safety training that focuses primarily on high-voltage power-line safety.

The current presentation incorporates video and slide material in an interactive 90-minute presentation that effectively reaches student audiences to deliver BC Hydro's message of power-line safety.
