'Tis the season to be Power Smart

'Twas the month before Christmas with not a drop of snow;
I had an exciting experience while at the West Coast Christmas Show.

Saint Nicholas arrived and I had so much fun,
Chatting with him, just one on one.

I had so many questions for the jolly old soul-
like how to stay Power Smart up in the North Pole.

Just think about how much energy it would take to heat and light the huge workshop where the elves make toys all day, as well as the stables where the reindeer live and play.

Santa Claus had tons of great ideas about how to save electricity up in the North Pole. The reindeers' stables, Santa explained, had their own special way of being Power Smart. "Rudolph's nose is like an LED!" joked Santa. The bright nose not only guides his sleigh on Christmas Eve, but also provides more than enough light for the stable. Another way Santa saves electricity up north, is by decorating the inside and outside of his workshop with holiday LED lights.

"They are 95 per cent more efficient than the regular incandescent light bulbs, and they last so much longer!" exclaimed Santa. Santa is so Power Smart that he and his elves refuse to use electrical tools and build all the toys by hand. Mrs. Claus also strives to save electricity; when she is baking she always makes sure that the oven is filled to the absolute brim!

Santa even had the opportunity to meet our friend, the Power Smart Lamp. The lamp had quite the extensive Christmas wish list, but most prominent was the desire for a bright, new, compact fluorescent light bulb and one of those new-fangled power bars with the built in timer!

My encounter with Santa came to an end with his commitment to try to save even more energy up in the North Pole, by signing up for Team Power Smart. 'Tis the season to be Power Smart, so join Santa by pledging to save 10 per cent of your electricity consumption and ensure yourself a place on his "nice" list!
