Sponsorships
BC Hydro sponsorships support community activities and programs that form partnerships to strengthen B.C. communities. Our aim is to raise awareness of Power Smart initiatives by encouraging a change in our customers' attitude and behaviour toward saving energy.
Sponsorships Guidelines
Please review the following criteria to ensure your request is submitted appropriately. If you have additional questions, please phone our regional contacts.
Sponsorship Funding Areas
- Environment and Sustainability
Initiatives that involve environmental sustainability and foster a conservation culture in B.C. - Youth and Education
Initiatives that offer opportunities to educate B.C. youth on environmental topics, sustainability, science, technology and energy conservation in B.C. - People and Leadership
Initiatives that provide opportunities for people to engage, educate and exchange information about diversity and B.C.'s energy future, and develop leadership skills in their communities - Community Initiatives
Initiatives that fit one or more funding criteria that support unique ways to strengthen the communities served by BC Hydro and provide opportunities for customer interaction
Sponsorship Criteria
Within the funding areas, preference is given to initiatives that:
- align with BC Hydro's purpose and long term business goals
- engage and support Aboriginal Peoples of B.C.
- involve communities where BC Hydro has facilities, operations and impacts
- support Power Smart programs or initiatives
- provide opportunities to customize promotional activities and allow for on-site customer education and interaction
Exclusions from Sponsorships
The following are not eligible for sponsorship support:
- individuals
- religious affiliated groups
- political parties or partisan activities
- travel for individuals or groups
- underwriting films, television or video production
- fraternal organizations, commercial solicitor, third-party or professional fundraisers
- talent or beauty contests
- cost of electricity services or equipment (prohibited by the B.C. Utilities Commission)
- health and social service organizations (please see BC Hydro's HYDRECS program)
- named academic chairships or fellowships
- reducing debts or past operating ventures
- post-secondary research grants
- initiatives outside of British Columbia
- for-profit organizations
- advertising and promotions
- applications for tickets (contests, raffles, or other activity with prize)
How to Apply for Sponsorships
All applications for BC Hydro's sponsorships are to be submitted via our online application system. The online application process takes about thirty minutes to complete once you have reviewed the information described in the instructions.
If you mail or fax an application to BC Hydro you will be requested to complete the online application form before your application will be considered.
If this is your first time applying online:
- Review the funding areas, criteria and exclusions above.
- Review the application procedures.
- Complete the online application form. The application will take about 30 minutes to complete.
- Print a copy of the final application for your records.
Once you have submitted your online application, a message confirming your submission will appear. You can expect a decision within 30 days on whether or not BC Hydro can provide the support that you have requested. The response time may be prolonged if there is an unexpectedly high volume of requests or if your request is incomplete and we must contact you for additional information.
