Kids love children’s festivals, but not all parents can afford the admission fees.
That’s why the Vancouver Island International Children’s Festival created an Angel program, to ensure that all children and their families have the opportunity to experience live arts and culture regardless of their financial situation.
Through this program BC Hydro was able send 60 students from Georgia Ave. Elementary School to Nanaimo’s Maffeo Sutton Park to participate in a day of fun, learning and entertainment.
BC Hydro’s was able to sponsor buses and tickets for the students who watched several shows and visited many of the exhibits. According to Georgia Elementary School teacher Cindy Haack “the students had a wonderful time at the Children’s Festival. They said it was a great field trip. …The students loved the medals they made at (BC Hydro’s) booth and the staff was great with them!"
In thank you letters to BC Hydro, Georgia Ave Elementary student Erin claimed to “really like the energy booth”, Celina “really liked the energy racing station” while Jeremy thanked BC Hydro “for the best day of the year!”
“We rely on the generosity of individuals, service clubs and businesses such as BC Hydro in each community that we serve to donate to the Angel program. (Donated) funds are distributed within the community that they originated so that children from all over Vancouver Island can attend the festival,” says Bobbi Kurtz, General Manager for the festival.
For BC Hydro it was nice to be involved in a program that gives back to the community’s youth in such a real way.
