As you can imagine, we receive numerous requests for support each year, and as a result we have aligned our funding criteria with our [PDF, 579 Kb] with a focus on educating British Columbians about energy use and conservation. We encourage you to follow the below steps to determine if your organization or initiative is eligible for support.
Environmental Sustainability
Initiatives and events with a focus on environmental sustainability that foster personal and organizational action for clean energy and conservation in B.C.
Youth and Lifestyle
Initiatives and events that create opportunities for youth to engage with others about environmental sustainability, clean energy, and taking personal accountability for energy use in B.C.
Community Leadership
Initiatives and events that build capacity in our communities by educating and fostering personal and organizational action for environmental sustainability, clean energy and conservation in B.C.
Our strongest donations and sponsorships cover more than one of our funding pillars.
Once we can determine if there is a fit, we look to see if your initiative or organization:
- Provides opportunity for one-on-one conversation about energy use through BC Hydro's teams being onsite, speaking opportunities and/or other unique promotional opportunities
- Provides access to the organization's network to further message around energy use and conservation
- Has shown an interest in being more energy conscious and being informed about energy choices
- Provides unique opportunities to promote BC Hydro's energy story to British Columbians
- Educates and/or mentors tomorrow's environmental community leaders
- Provides access and educational opportunities for those who would not otherwise be able to participate including those in low income families and remote rural areas
- Supports aboriginal peoples of B.C.
- Is a non-profit and/or registered Canadian charity (sponsorships may be negotiated with for-profit organizations)
- Provides services and activities without regard to race, religion, creed, sex or sexual orientation
- Presents clearly defined and measureable outcomes
- Provides results post-commitment
- Provides BC Hydro with the ability to meet [PDF, 579 Kb] while promoting conservation and educating British Columbians about making informed energy choices
For every application we receive, we ask the following questions. About 50% of the weighting is in alignment with BC Hydro's [PDF, 579 Kb], with the remaining 50% based on the opportunity to spread the conservation message across the province.
Values and employee engagement potential
- Is the applicant credible, reputable and legitimate?
- Is there an opportunity for a direct role by the team to activate / participate in the initiative?
- Does the opportunity provide recruitment potential?
- Does the opportunity provide employee involvement or volunteering opportunities?
- Does the opportunity help a BC Hydro business group deliver on key [PDF, 579 Kb] and enhance relationships with customers?
Branding and conservation message potential
- Is the content or theme of the opportunity naturally aligned with our conservation message?
- Does the opportunity allow us to reach a significant number of people and have quality interactions with them?
- Is there an opportunity to promote BC Hydro's conservation message through logo placement, media relations, advertising, collateral materials and web links?
- Will the conservation message and BC Hydro support be prevalent enough to be recognized by most participants/recipients?
- Does the applicant organization have financial stability, good management and enough employees or volunteers to deliver on the promised benefits?
