plans & Projects
BCRP has proudly funded over 100 projects addressing footprint impacts to fish and wildlife. These projects fall into three general categories:
- Restoration: Following watershed-level restoration objectives set out in BCRP strategic watershed plans, these projects reduce or offset impacts by maintaining and restoring natural habitat forming processes.
>> Bull Island Side Channel (2002-2005)
- Conservation: Through the support of conservation acquisitions and covenants, BCRP can conserve important habitats that remain intact and protect lands for future restoration activities.
>> Baikie Island Land Purchase (1999) PDF 2.6M
- Research: BCRP supports research that will fill information gaps in our strategic planning, identify limiting factors and lead to the development of restoration objectives and conservation measures.
>> Southern Coast Ranges Grizzly Bear Population (2004-2005)
Ineligible Projects
Projects that are not considered to be eligible are:
- Non-applied research studies (studies which do not lead to an investment decision in habitat protection or restoration).
- Projects that require ongoing funding in the long term or perpetual funding in order to be viable such as hatcheries, fish farming or ongoing artificial means to maintain populations.
- Any project that does not contribute directly to the primary objective of habitat restoration.
- Any new fish passage projects at existing structures until BC Hydro publicly establishes a fish passage policy and the correlating strategic watershed plan has been updated and approved. (excludes ongoing initiatives under the Coquitlam Salmon Restoration Project)
