The BC Hydro Employees' Community Services Fund (HYDRECS) is seeking funding applications to support British Columbia based registered charities in the health and social service sector for its annual Special Projects fundraising campaign.

Five agencies, one provincial and four regional, are reviewed and selected by the HYDRECS Committee to receive funding support for their capital fundraising efforts. The Provincial project must be provincial in scope and of a capital nature. This project can receive funding up to $100,000. The Regional projects pertain to four regions with the following funding amounts for a capital project or program: up to $30,000 in the Lower Mainland, and up to $10,000 for Vancouver Island, the South Interior and the North.

To receive Special Project funding, an applicant must:

  • Be a registered Canadian charity;
  • Be based in British Columbia;
  • Have a project that supports the betterment of community through the health or social service sectors;
  • Use regional funds for capital purposes or a program;
  • Have an elected voluntary Board of Directors;
  • Demonstrate that its program or project costs are equivalent to the highest funding amount category sought; and
  • Demonstrate a financial need.

Applications are available online and must be submitted by March 15, 2010.

About HYDRECS

The HYDRECS Special Projects fundraising campaign runs in BC Hydro offices and is promoted to BC Hydro employees and retirees between September and December of each year. During the campaign, employees and retirees have the option of donating to the Special Projects or to any listed registered charity of their choice. One hundred percent of each contribution received by HYDRECS is given to the selected charity.

HYDRECS is governed by an employee and retiree volunteer Committee which facilitates the charitable contributions raised each year. The Committee consists of workers from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, IBEW local 258, the Canadian Office & Professional Employees Union, COPE local 378, Management & Professional (M&P) employees and retirees.
