The Employee Commitment Index is scored from composite answers to eight questions posed in the annual Employee Survey which provide a reliable measure of employees' commitment to their work and to the company. The survey, for the first time, took a full census of the employee population and was web-enabled. The result was a 70 per cent response rate (over 58 per cent last year) and over 1,100 additional responses. The decrease in the index can be attributed to an increase in respondents that were not previously surveyed, to organizational changes, to increased performance management, and to a number of changes to benefits. Finally, the WorkCanada Benchmark has itself decreased, indicating that workers in general are noting less commitment than in previous years. Management is taking this survey as an excellent and accurate baseline, and is taking actions to improve the results going forward.
