HR12(2) Relations with Aboriginal People Make Text Larger Make Text Smaller Print This Page

Guided by the company's First Nations 20 Year Goal to "establish relationships with First Nations built on mutual respect and that appropriately reflect the interests of First Nations", BC Hydro continues to work closely with First Nations and Aboriginal peoples in British Columbia.

In February 2008, BC Hydro became the first utility in Canada to join the Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business (CCAB) and its Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) Program. The program allows companies to benchmark their performance in building positive relationships with Aboriginal people, businesses and communities, and to gauge and improve their commitment to Aboriginal relations. Under the PAR program, BC Hydro will be conducting a self-evaluation of its aboriginal relations initiatives this year, which will then be externally verified by the National Quality Institute and a jury established by the CCAB for a determination of standing.
