This program was initiated to reduce congestion and associated air pollution from single-occupant employee vehicles commuting to and from work. Currently, two formal carpools operate at the Dunsmuir location in downtown Vancouver, and nine formal carpools operate at our Edmonds facility in Burnaby, up from seven in fiscal 2008. BC Hydro also offers bike lockers for bicycle commuters, at both the Vancouver and Burnaby facilities.
An employee discount is offered to buyers of bus passes in the Lower Mainland as part of the TransLink Pass Program.
Continuing high gasoline prices, the transit pass tax deduction, and a number of new hires at both the Edmonds and Dunsmuir locations, together with an increased commitment to making sustainable transportation choices are thought to account for the increased participation.
