This indicator provides a measure of the extent to which BC Hydro and other utilities reduce consumption and purchases of new insulating oil by reusing existing inventories of insulating oil that may have otherwise been disposed of as waste, burned as fuel, or recycled rather than reused. The 2005 volumes includes British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC) numbers; 2004 and 2003 data does not include BCTC volumes. The fiscal 2007 reuse rate is not comparable to the previous year due to the reporting period being changed from calendar year to fiscal year. The fiscal 2009 insulating oil reused percentage increase was largely due to the fact that much less oil was sent from the Oil Management Department as waste in fiscal 2009 in comparison to fiscal 2008 (10,900 litres in fiscal 2009 compared to 98,310 litres in fiscal 2008). This data does not take into account any insulating oil that may have been sent directly from a BC Hydro facility to a management facility other than the Oil Management Department of BC Hydro.
