Releases of ozone depleting substances (ODS) are recorded in BC Hydro's Environmental Incident Reporting System. Releases include Bromotrifluoromethane (CBrF3) also know as Halon 1301, which is used in fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems and Chlorodifluoromethane (CHClF2) also known as HCFC-22 which is used in refrigeration and cooling systems, including building and vehicle air conditioners.
Data in the table above is based on a calendar year and includes releases from British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC). Calendar year 2008 releases remain within historical levels.
