Notes:

  • GHG emissions are reported for facilities that are under BC Hydro’s operational control.
  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions are reported in metric kilotonnes. Methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions are reported in metric tonnes. Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) emissions are reported in kilograms.
  • GHG emissions are rounded to the nearest integer. Emissions reported as zero reflect this rounding. Totals may not add up due to rounding.
  • GHG emissions associated with the corporate operations of wholly-owned subsidiaries Powerex and Powertech are included.
  • Fugitive SF6 emissions from equipment under operational control of the BC Transmission Corporation are not included.
  • Where historical GHG emissions do not match previously reported values, emissions have been recalculated due to changes in inventory scope, improvements in data collection and/or updates to emission factors. This year, recalculations reflect:
    • updated CO2 emission factors for stationary natural gas combustion, stationary diesel combustion, mobile diesel combustion and mobile gasoline combustion in accordance with the National Inventory Report: 1990-2007, Greenhouse Gas Sources and Sinks in Canada (Environment Canada, 2009);
    • addition of 2007 cardlock fuel purchases for the vehicle fleet;
    • improved reporting of historical SF6 releases; and
    • revised historical electricity consumption by BC Hydro to exclude consumption of self-generated electricity, in accordance with ISO 14064-1 and GHG reporting protocols from The Climate Registry and from the World Business Council of Sustainable Development/World Resources Institute.
