Independent power producers (IPPs) are operators of privately owned electricity facilities, usually connected to a utility's transmission system, to sell electricity. BC Hydro purchases electricity generated by IPPs at biomass, natural gas, small hydro and landfill gas generating sources in BC. Net power imports is the difference between total imports and total exports. BC Hydro estimates the emission factor applied to net imports based on the generating mix in our trading region.
