"Likely costs" shown are estimated total costs, in thousands of dollars, for all listed sites through all phases of contaminated site management, from assessment to final remediation and closure. The cost for each site is the operating provision made for the site for the fiscal year shown. The data are extracted from the BC Hydro Known Environmental Exposures Reporting (KEER) system that was introduced in 1996. It is a tool used by Corporate Finance to assign and track financial liability over $100,000 associated with known contaminated sites according to standard accounting principles. Once listed, they generally remain on the list until remediated. BCTC reports separately on the sites that it manages. This is the first year this measure has been reported.
