Water inflows into storage reservoirs were 98 per cent of average for F2006 and up two per cent from the previous fiscal year. System storage was about 2,700 GWh higher than average at year-end, and about 200 GWh higher than the same time last year. Peace River operational constraints to manage river ice at the Town of Peace River began this year on February 14 and ended on March 31. During the constrained period, the GMS and Peace Canyon average discharge was held at reduce flow while generation at the upper Columbia plants (Mica and Revelstoke) were adjusted as necessary to meet the net system load. Since that time, the Peace River plants have been run in preference to the Mica and Revelstoke plants due to the higher likelihood of spill at the Peace River plants. On the Columbia system, both BC Hydro and Bonneville Power Authority stored aggressively into their non-treaty storage accounts between January and March, and this will help to support Kinbasket and Arrow reservoir levels during the summer months. The 2006 Non-Power Uses Agreement set up the framework for successful Keenleyside discharge regimes for whitefish and trout spawning. The winter whitefish operation has been completed and the trout operation began in early April.
