The policy of BC Hydro is to protect and preserve the natural environment. Contract award decisions made by BC Hydro shall take into consideration products, services or construction methods that are environmentally sensitive and products that are recycled, and give preference to tenders where the products, services or construction methods are proven to be environmentally superior, as well as cost effective, to products, services or construction methods offered in other tenders. Tenderers must disclose sufficient information with their tenders to demonstrate that they will perform the services in an environmentally responsible manner. BC Hydro also checks the execution of tenders to ensure that the promised level of environmental performance is delivered. Out of the 1,032 local work contract tenders, 143 select tenders and 224 public tenders issued by BC Hydro last fiscal year, no exceptions were received regarding the environmental clause.
