BC Hydro and Powertech Labs use small, sealed radioactive sources contained inside measuring devices and spark arresters. All sources are operated in compliance to licenses and regulations issued by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. Actual activity may be less due to radioactive decay. Our radioactive materials inventory continues to decline as old equipment is retired and non-radioactive substitutes are found. (One MBq equals one million radioactive decays per second.)
