Reportable spills are any volume over the provincial spill reporting quantities. Reportable petroleum spills are any volume over 100 litres spilled to land or any amount spilled to water. Threshold reporting volumes for other substances vary from one litre or kilogram to 200 litres or kilograms, depending on the substance. Number of spills remains at or below historical levels. British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC) release data is not included in the above totals from 2003 onward.
*Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) 2004 data is preliminary and may change. BCTC is not included in the totals above from 2003 onwards.
Fish incidents refer to those incidents that are externally reportable to regulatory agencies, as required by the Fisheries Act, Fish Protection Act, Water Act, or that fall under the Water License Agreements issued to the individual generating facilities. Pesticide incidents are those that involve the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Pesticide Products Act, Waste Management Act, Special Waste Regulations, or Pesticide Product Control Act. The number of incidents remains at historical levels. Fish and pesticide incidents are for the latest fiscal year (i.e., 2005 is for F2006).
