Landfill diversion rate estimates the percentage of total solid, non-hazardous waste prevented from going to landfill due to reuse, refurbishment or recycling. in 2004/2005, the calculation method was revised and is no longer comparable to prior years. It is now calculated by dividing the total weight of all incoming end-of-life material by the total weight of all materials recycled for the period shown. It does not include materials that may have been disposed, or recycled, by individual facilities without notifying Materials Management Business Unit. BC Hydro has demonstrated that these initiatives save money as well as landfill space.
