This indicator provides a measure of the extent to which BC Hydro and other utilities reduce consumption and purchases of new insulating oil by reusing existing inventories of insulating oil that may have otherwise been disposed of as waste, burned as fuel, or recycled rather than reused. The 2005 volumes includes British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC) numbers; 2004 and 2003 data does not include BCTC volumes. Calendar years 1999 to 2002 include combined oil volumes from BC Hydro and what is now BCTC.
The fiscal 2007 reuse rate is not comparable to the previous year due to the reporting period being changed from calendar year to fiscal year. Benchmarking data from other Canadian utilities is no longer being collected by the Canadian Electricity Association.
