Asset Health Risk Index is defined as the percentage of Distribution wire assets rated in fair or poor health through an annual assessment of its asset health. Assets in good health are expected to continue to perform its intended function for the next 10 years. Assets in fair health are those that will have an adverse impact on BC Hydro's operations within the next 10 years unless an appropriate management program is in place. Assets in poor health are those that require immediate attention and for which an active program is in place to mitigate the risk.
Asset health has remained relatively stable in fiscal 2008. Areas of improvement in fiscal 2008 include overhead wires and vegetation edge condition. Areas that have declined in fiscal 2008 include vegetation corridor condition and underground systems. BC Hydro continues to assess changing asset conditions in various asset categories and prioritize spending to address areas of concern. In the near term there will be greater focus on underground systems to ensure the ongoing health and capability of the assets to deliver safe and reliable service to customers.
